UoN Expands Course Offerings in Entrepreneurship, Innovation & IP

The University of Nairobi is addressing the growing demand for knowledge in entrepreneurship, innovation, and intellectual property (IP) by developing a comprehensive certificate course in this area. This exciting initiative is a collaborative effort between the Department of Physics and the Department of Business Administration with active participation from the Faculty of Engineering.

The pilot course received a positive response from the university community. However, the increasing prevalence of similar courses within undergraduate curriculums across various departments prompted the Afretec Teaching and Learning Pillar at the university to take the lead in further developing the program for undergraduate studies.

A recent workshop facilitated by Afretec in UoN focused on developing a flexible 45-hour course module. This module will be designed for physical, online, and asynchronous delivery, allowing the University to reach a wider student audience and meet the surge in demand for this critical knowledge base.

Recognizing the need for financial support to implement the program effectively, Afretec’s Teaching and Learning Pillar took the initiative during the workshop to draft a funding proposal. The proposal seeks to secure resources for full program implementation, including the training of a critical mass of “Trainer of Trainers” who will be instrumental in launching and sustaining the course.

This collaborative effort between various departments and Afretec pillars underscores the University’s commitment to fostering an environment of innovation and entrepreneurship among its students. The new program promises to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge they need to translate their ideas into reality, while protecting their intellectual property throughout the process.
